Smart guys
and they usually are, guys
though not always, smart
articulating thoughts
formed and unformed
defending positions they didn't even know were theirs to defend
until they found
themselves defending them
living up to the legendary status they've attained
in their own minds
making stationary arguments in mobile situations

a gentleman hardly ever sits
on the new york subway system
while a generous woman
will likely runout of cash before she hits
midtown

a potential political candidate will tire facial muscles
practice-smiling at the cute-faced babies
of hard-faced parents
while a meek visitor from Britain will NEVER
discover
which way is uptown or downtown, which line is express or local
and mocha-brown cuties have absolutely no need
to pickup
the stuff that they drop on the floor
